Conversions
In most cases, yes — it can be done.
If you already have a golf cart, converting it into a street-legal LSV is usually possible. That is the first thing we want you to know. Call the shop and we will talk through your cart.
The good news
Most carts can be converted.
You do not have to start over. QC Cart Craft supports customers with their current personal transportation vehicles, or we help them find NEW ones. Bring what you have. We will look at it with you.
What a conversion typically involves
Every cart is a little different, so we do not quote a one-size timeline or price here. The path is practical and familiar:
01
Start with the cart you have
Bring us the golf cart you already drive. In most cases it can be converted. If a conversion is not the right fit, we can help you look at a NEW street-legal LSV instead.
02
Add the on-road equipment
A conversion typically means fitting the features that qualify an LSV: lights, signals, reflectors, windshield, seat belts, mirrors, horn, parking brake, and DOT-rated tires, among other items. The full feature list is on the LSVs page.
03
Manufacturer VIN
A true LSV needs a Vehicle Identification Number from a manufacturer — not a golf-cart serial number. QC Cart Craft is a NHTSA licensed manufacturer of street legal Low Speed Vehicles (LSV).
04
Title, plate, and insurance
After the work, the vehicle is typically titled and registered like other motor vehicles. Your DMV (or equivalent) and your insurance company handle those steps. We can talk through the cart; they handle the paperwork on their side.
For the feature list that typically qualifies a unit as an LSV, see the LSVs page. This page is about the conversion path, not a substitute for that checklist.
Life with an LSV
It is the journey, not the destination.
If you live near shopping and eating places, and you can get there on roads posted 35 mph and less, an LSV can be a primary way to get around. It is so much more fun to go out in an LSV than in a large vehicle. You are out in the open air. You wave and speak to your neighbors. Neighborhood get-togethers. Halloween trick-or-treating. The LSV in the driveway is the opposite of always rushing to get somewhere.
